My mission is to provide a voice for the people of North Taranaki and ensure genuine advocacy in Council.
Ian Cummings

A Brief Introduction to Ian

Let's Make A Change Together!

NPDC residents deserve better than recent rates blunders and financial mismanagement. As your Councillor, I will prioritize accountable decision-making to put the needs and interests of local residents first. A vote for Ian Cummings means Real Council Representation, Real Local Governance, and Real Community Prosperity, not just more of the same.

Explore What I Believe

Core Principles

Real Representation

I will consider issues pragmatically, consult with you in considering my vote and always act on clearly declared conviction. I will ensure you and the people of North Taranaki have genuine advocacy in Council on matters like rates and infrastructure.

Real Community Prosperity

The private and voluntary sector, not council bureaucracy, is where the endless capacity for innovation, creative thought and prosperity comes from. I am a strong advocate for free enterprise and will push to reduce regulatory hurdles that stifle local growth. If you are too then I am asking for your North Ward vote.

Real Council Governance

The first duty of local government is to protect communities through efficient services, not impose unnecessary costs or regulations that harm them. We need council leaders with the courage to uphold community values, address financial errors, and do no harm.

My Political Vision

Infrastructure & Roads

NPDC must prioritize maintaining roads, water, and wastewater systems without constant disruptions like unnecessary shutdowns and closures. I’ll advocate for better planning to avoid costly delays and ensure reliable services, addressing resident frustrations with ongoing upgrades and maintenance issues.

Environment

A balanced approach to local sustainability that boosts economic development and protects property rights while managing our natural environment is essential. I’ll support reforms to reduce red tape in resource consents, opposing impractical measures that burden ratepayers and local industries without meaningful benefits.

Community Services

NPDC’s parks and reserves are a strength, but overall satisfaction is dropping due to inefficiencies. I’ll focus on enhancing community facilities and events through voluntary partnerships, ensuring council supports what residents value without wasteful spending.

Volunteering

We shouldn’t wait around for council to solve every problem. Our voluntary sector is where the endless capacity for innovation and creative thought comes from. When challenges arise, good neighbours step up and solve problems from the bottom up, and I’ll champion this in NPDC decisions.

Housing & land

Council planning often ties developments in red tape, delaying progress and infringing on property rights. I’ll push for streamlined consents under NPDC’s jurisdiction, allowing owners to build responsibly without restrictive zoning that harms neighbours or drives up costs.
